“We are thrilled to have Pediatric Hair Solutions locate in Mount Pleasant,” said Mayor Page. “We look forward to their involvement in our vibrant business community and the services they will provide the residents of Mount Pleasant.”

Head Lice removal service in Mount Pleasant and Charleston

Head lice is the second most common communicable disease, affecting 6 to 12 million school aged children each year in the United States. The problem is getting worse as lice have developed a resistance to the most commonly used over the counter treatments.

Pediatric Hair Solutions provides screening, diagnosis and head lice treatment for children and adults. Their treatment process includes an FDA-cleared medical device that uses heated air to kill lice and eggs. The technology is clinically proven to kill 99.2% of lice and eggs.

“We look forward to providing families in the Mount Pleasant area with a safe and effective treatment for head lice,” said Sheila Fassler, the nurse who owns Pediatric Hair Solutions. “We’ve had families from the Charleston area driving two hours to our Columbia location for head lice treatment. We wanted to provide them with a local, professional resource they could count on to solve a stressful problem quickly and safely.”

Pediatric Hair Solutions is active in each community it serves, providing education, counseling and support services to families and school communities. The company’s medically trained professionals partner with school nurses and pediatricians as a resource for families in need of screening, treatment and education.

The new treatment center is located at 1041 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. in Mount Pleasant. It’s the company’s ninth location. Fassler and her husband, John Fassler, MD, founded Pediatric Hair Solutions in 2010.

Pediatric Hair Solutions is consistently recommended by pediatricians, school nurses and camp health administrators. The medically trained staff are certified operators of the FDA-cleared medical device, called an AirAlle. The company has treated more than 25,000 children and adults. Treatment services are reimbursable by most insurance plans

Pediatric Hair Solutions Featured in North Carolina’s Health and Wellness Magazine

Pediatric Hair Solutions was recently featured in North Carolina’s Health and Wellness Magazine. The article detailed the facts and myths surrounding head lice, including recent studies that reveal 98% of head lice have developed resistance to the most common over-the-counter products like Rid and Nix.

Health and Wellness Author Amy Burton owns Revel Salon and Color Studio in Tega Cay, SC. She refers her clients to Pediatric Hair Solutions because she wants them to receive fast, effective and medically sound treatment for head lice. She also likes the fact that the treatment solutions developed by Pediatric Hair Solutions are non-toxic and contain no pesticides.

As Amy points out in her article, “Not only was I highly impressed with their knowledge and expertise, the facility is extremely clean and comfortable.” She also talks about her own experience as a stylist seeing that head lice does not discriminate, “Head lice is highly contagious and can find a home on any head – regardless of age, gender or ethnicity. In over 35 years as a cosmetologist, I’ve encountered people with lice from toddlers to grandparents in their eighties. It used to be the schools sent notes home informing parents when there was an outbreak in the classroom. Now, many of them don’t bother. If you have school age children, work with kids, or know students living in a college dormitory, it’s a good idea to perform regular head checks – and know what to look for! Unsettling as it may be – believe it or not, many professionals including hair stylists, nurses and even doctors often miss lice infestations because they are not educated enough to know it when they see it.”

“The best head lice prevention is to avoid sharing brushes, combs, hats and bedding, especially with anyone who has an active lice infestation. There are also safe, non-toxic, natural preventative sprays that keep lice away. More and more people are using them on their children daily, especially when they hear of an outbreak at school. These products are available through Pediatric Hair Solutions, as well as select pharmacies and salons.”

Tips for a Lice-Free Summer Camp

Some of your child’s best memories are often made at summer camp. Unfortunately, head lice like camp just as much as your children do. Don’t let the pesky problem keep your child from the fun of swimming, games and campfires this summer.

Pediatric Hair Solutions keeps campers lice free!

How to prevent lice at summer campMore camp programs are being proactive about preventing the spread of head lice and calling on Pediatric Hair Solutions to help. Our clinicians will be heading to camps in the Southeast this summer to help prevent lice outbreaks.

We offer camp concierge services that include head checks for all campers upon arrival. Children who are found to have head lice are treated on-site using our guaranteed process that includes a non-toxic solution and FDA cleared AirAlle device. Our service protects other children from getting head lice and allows campers who arrive with head lice the ability to stay and enjoy their camp experience.

Camps with proactive head lice policies using Pediatric Hair Solutions services include: Camp Greystone, Camp Merrie-Wood, Camp Judaea, Camp Green Cove, Camp Wayfarer and Camp Kanata.

Pediatric Hair Solutions also provides customized assistance based on the needs of each camp to establish policies, treatment protocols and guidance for campers and their families.

For camps not using our concierge service, we can provide our non-toxic treatment solutions and, if there is an outbreak, send a nurse to help contain the spread within 48 hours of a report.

Tips to prevent lice in your camper:

As you prepare to send your child to camp, you should also prepare for the potential of head lice. It makes sense, kids are together day and night, sleeping in tight quarters.

Before camp starts, be proactive and have your child checked for head lice in the privacy of one of our nine clinic locations.

If your child has recently had lice and you’ve been treating it with over-the-counter shampoos, chances are they still have lice and should be checked. Super lice are resistant to most chemical treatments.

When camp starts, remind your child not to share brushes, combs, hairbands or hats. For children with longer hair, it helps to keep the hair tied back in a ponytail or bun.

Don’t forget to pack Pediatric Hair Solutions Preventative Lice Spray. Our non-toxic, lice deterrent has a light mint scent that lice don’t like.

If your child’s camp does not have a head lice policy, it’s important to have them checked for lice after camp ends. Lice is present in 2-4% of school-aged children so chances are several kids at camp came there with lice.

When Lice Won’t Leave

“I have used a pharmacist-recommended anti-lice shampoo FOUR times and my child still has lice!”

Head lice that keeps coming back

Sound familiar? If so, you’re not alone. These are comments from just a few of our many clients who turn to us for help after months of battling head lice.

The problem of persistent lice causes extreme stress, lost time at school and work, not to mention the hundreds of dollars spent on treatments that don’t work. At Pediatric Hair Solutions, we have treated over 15,000 children and adults without a single treatment failure.

If you’re struggling with persistent lice, HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW about why common treatments often don’t work and details on more effective solutions.

1. There is a common pattern of lice suppression and resurgence when families use lice shampoos and prescription treatments.

What does that mean? Since lice shampoos only kill live bugs and not their eggs, it’s up to parents to comb out every single lice egg. If just one or two are left behind, it will take about 3 weeks for those left behind eggs to hatch, starting a new cycle of lice infestation.

During those weeks, parents think they have the problem under control, not knowing those eggs are developing into live bugs. This is also a common reason lice are spread to other family members and classmates. In other words, the lice aren’t necessarily coming back, they were never completely gone in the first place.

2. Head lice are increasingly becoming resistant to common over-the-counter treatments. A recent study shows 99% of head lice have developed a genetic mutation allowing them to resist to chemical treatments. As chemical treatments become more and more potent, lice have developed a resistance to the toxic chemicals.

The result? Many over-the-counter treatments have an effectiveness rate as low as 20%, no matter how many times you use them.

This is a common reason for persistent lice infestations and can only be battled with non-chemical solutions.

3. Non-toxic treatment solutions are the best way to effectively treat lice. Natural products and treatment modalities, such as the non-toxic  treatment solutions used at Pediatric Hair Solutions, kill lice and their eggs. Lice cannot become resistant to natural solutions so this is the best way to battle the bugs.

For a 100% effective and guaranteed solution, we recommend our 3-step process which includes natural pre-treatment solution, a 30-minute treatment with a medical device and post treatment. This process guarantees your child will not be re-infested as it covers the span of the 21 day lifecycle of lice.

Pediatric Hair Solutions Medical Director is Expert Guest on Dr. Radio

Dr. John Fassler, Medical Director of Pediatric Hair Solutions and Lice Clinics of America, was recently a guest on Dr. Radio on Sirius XM. Dr. Fassler appeared on the segment “On Call for Kids” to discuss the super lice epidemic and effective treatment options for head lice.

super lice doctor radio

Pediatrician and radio host Dr. Dan Rauch asked Dr. Fassler commonly asked questions that parents often have about head lice and the hysteria that often surrounds a lice diagnosis.

Dr. Fassler explained that lice are most commonly spread through head-to-head contact and can’t live off their host longer than approximately 24 hours.

While head lice can spread in a school setting, Dr. Fassler says lice is more contagious within a family. Pediatric Hair Solutions recommends all family members of a child diagnosed with head lice be checked as their is a high rate of exposure among family members.

Dr. Fassler also discussed the various treatments for getting rid of head lice. He pointed out that lice are becoming increasingly resistant to commonly used over-the-counter treatments such as RID and Nix. Recent research confirms that the so-called ‘super lice’ have mutated to develop a resistant to the chemicals found in over-the-counter solutions.

Combating super-lice requires a non-toxic approach. Dr. Fassler said manual removal can be effective but is very time consuming and a single missed nit can lead to persistent infestation.

He told the audience the most effective treatments are those offered by Pediatric Hair Solutions and other affiliates of Lice Clinics of America that use the FDA cleared AirAllé™ heated air device. The 30 minute heated air treatment dehydrates lice and their eggs. In combination with pre and post treatment with a non-toxic solution, the process is proven to be 100% effective.
