Owner Sheila Fassler, RN, supports a petition submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requesting that they recognize safer head lice treatment options. The petition requests that the FDA update its website content and educational materials to provide the public with easily available information on safe and effective head lice options.
Pediatric Hair Solutions uses a physician formulated, non-toxic solution that suffocates all adult lice. That is followed by a heated air medical device which dehydrates all lice eggs. Patients leave our medical clinic completely lice free.
Currently FDA-approved treatments for head lice include both over-the-counter (OTC) shampoos, such as Nix and Rid and prescription treatments. However, research published in 2016 found 98% of head lice have developed resistance to the pesticides found in those products.
In addition, the pesticides found in the OTC shampoos recommended by the FDA are neurotoxins, which can be harmful for some children.
